Uses: Long oil alkyds contain a significant amount of oil which assists smooth brushing and application to surfaces. A long oil alkyd can be applied to wood surfaces for protection and to metal surfaces for corrosion prevention. It does this by acting as a film forming agent due to its polyester component.
